By your powers combined,
we are The Ron Jonsons!

On a more personal note…

We meet again, fans. To catch you up with the band this week, I’ll simply say that
we’re closer than ever to finishing the album and that we’ve narrowed down our
choice of studios to a very small number. With any luck, we’ll be in a studio by mid
November. Other than that, well, there aren’t any particularly interesting
happenings about The Ron Jonsons that are worth mentioning this week. So let’s
get personal.

It’s a lovely Wednesday afternoon and I’m sitting down to a lovely episode of
Scrubs. Scrubs is brain food. It helps my creative juices to flow. It also refuels my
ability to be a funny guy. On that note, I wonder…If each member of The Ron
Jonsons were a body part, I wonder which body parts we’d be?

I’d probably be the hands. One of my nicknames in the band is ‘Mr. Practical’. I can’
t stand just sitting in a room and talking. I like to get out there and act on our many
ideas and theories, such as establishing the webpage. Spence would probably be
the heart. You guys should hear the riveting speeches and pep talks he gives us
about the heart and soul of music. He is very passionate about music. You should
ask him sometime about what music means to him. Austin would definitely be the
right side of the brain. He’s probably the most creative of the four of us. His mind
is way out there, but it’s in a good way. He helps us to expand our creativity when
it comes to writing songs and improvisation. Butts would be the other side of that
same coin, the left side of the brain. He’s also very creative, but he’s more the
“measure twice, cut once” sort of thinker. We’d have probably gotten into a lot of
trouble by now if he hadn’t looked before we leapt. He’s also responsible for
getting our biggest gigs so far.

Well, now you’ve had a glimpse at what makes The Ron Jonsons the well-oiled
machine that it is. If any single part of our band were removed, our system would
not work. We’re proud to say that we rely on each other’s strengths and cover
each other’s weaknesses. Using our abilities, we’re going to rock your face off.
And before too long, we’ll be rocking your CD players, too.

                                    We promise.

Greetings Fan Jonsons. The Ron Drummer is on vacation this week and is taking
time out to take time out to fill you all in on our happenings.

Tuesday night, The RJs were in Hartwell cooking up a test run of the album. Josh
bought a new personal-size recording device and we put it through its paces. We
did a straight run of the album and I gotta say, it’s sounding very well. It was nice
to hear the songs from y’all’s perspective. Some things we like, others will be
changed, but progress was made.

I realize that we’ve been saying “coming soon” for the album for a while now.
While we want to release the album as soon as possible, both for your and all
enjoyment, we will not release it before it’s good and ready. We are not only at the
mercy of studio schedules, but we have to change each song to fit on the cd
(editing/subtracting parts, rearranging…), make absolutely sure that each note
we play is correct, timing of and order of songs- all this needs to be taken into
account. We won’t sacrifice quality for speed. So please be patient and know that
when we say “coming soon” we really mean “coming at the soonest possible
time while still delivering the highest quality sound, feeling and music possible”.
Coming soon is just easier to say!

I hope my black cat stays away
     from my mirror collection today

Good day, Ron Nation! We had a couple of gigs over the weekend, one in
Statesboro and the other in Hartwell, and boy, do we have a juicy story for you.
The Statesboro gig didn’t go exactly as planned for all kinds of crazy reasons. Let
me explain…

As you all know, this past Friday was Friday the 13th, known to superstitious
people for having bad juju. It started a few days before when Austin let us know
that he couldn’t get out of his class to join us for the Statesboro gig. His class
ended at 5 pm. We were scheduled to go on at 6:30 pm. It is at LEAST a 3 hour
drive from Athens to Statesboro, so he would have shown up about an hour after
the show had ended. Bummer. So we decided to perform a three-man-band act
with Spence, Butts, and myself (very Rush-esque). But wait, things get stickier.

Spence had a class on Friday as well that he couldn’t get out of, however, it got
out at 3:30 pm. So let’s do the math: If Spence gets out at 3:30 and it’s at LEAST a
3 hour drive, he will arrive at the gig at 6:30 aka our exact start time. That’s the
kind of news that’ll make you clench your butt cheeks. Butts and I met in
Statesboro at 3:30 on Sweetheart Circle where we would perform, so from then
until 6:30, I was calling Spence to guide him in on the shortest route to Statesboro
possible. In the meantime, a local band went on before us and played to a
homecoming crowd of more than 100 people. Nice crowd! We were originally
scheduled to go first, however we had to push it back due to the class thing.

However, here’s how the story ends. Spence literally showed up to Sweetheart
Circle at the exact moment the previous band took their last piece of equipment
offstage. He had made it and it was literally not a minute too soon. The bad news?
It was dark and almost the entire homecoming crowd had left to go perform, well,
“college activities”. We played to about 8 people. Due to the lack of a crowd, the
sound guys were ready to strike down and pack up, so they gave us about a 30
minute show. Of course, we rocked the HECK out of those 8 people for 30
minutes!! The morale of the story? Planning is half the gig, folks. Make an exact
plan for the day, and it’s smooth sailing. We’ve learned our lesson.

I hope you enjoyed reading that tale and I hope you learned something from it! We’
re ready for the next gig. Bring it on!!!

P.S. We’re going to decide on a recording studio THIS WEEK!!

 OMG We're in the studio!!!

We’ve been busy…

some great news. Not only have we chosen a studio, we’re almost done laying
down all the drum and bass parts! Believe me, we’re just as surprised as you are.
We decided to go to Full Moon Studio in Watkinsville, and after that, we went
ahead and scheduled a long night and an afternoon to record as much as we
could. Next thing we knew, we were pulling a Monday night stretch from 9 pm to 4:
30 in the morn and half of the drum and bass parts were done. We went back in at
11 the next morning, and after a yummy lunch break at IHOP and a couple more
hours, we had nearly half the album recorded.

Mind, we still have to record a couple more things on drum and bass, and then
there’ll be the guitar and keyboard parts, then the solos and then the vocals, but
hey, we’re practically done already. Of course, then there’ll be getting the CD label
planned out and hitting up a print shop to get the liner notes printed, but
THEN…then, my friends, we will have a glorious album to gently place in your
hands (after a monetary exchange, of course). You’ll be excited to know that
many of your favorites will make the album such as nice album-quality versions of
“Had Enough”, “The Wall”, and “Night Ride”. There will also be a couple of never-
before-heard songs written specially for this album. We’re very excited. We’ve
wanted to make this album for a very long time. BTW, making an album costs a lot
of money. So if you’re bored and looking for something exciting and risky to do,
give us money! Or better yet, save it so you can buy our album! Now that we’re in
the studio, I’m feeling very confident that our album will be ready to buy right at
the beginning of 2010. We’re excited! We hope you are too!
